New leader at AIDS foundation

Mark Anderson, the executive director of Buddies of New Jersey, is the new executive director of the Maui AIDS Foundation.

He took over Oct. 1 for Steve Hire, who retired after 13 years with the organization, the foundation announced Tuesday.

“We’re extremely pleased that Mark has taken on this leadership role,” said Hire. “His work in the field of HIV/AIDS will be an asset to the community.”

The nonprofit Buddies of New Jersey is a resource center offering a network of support, education and services for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, the group’s website said.

“I am inspired by the mission of Maui AIDS Foundation,” said Anderson, “and I am excited about the opportunity of working closely with the community to promote education, prevention and health.”

Maui AIDS Foundation, established in 1987, provides services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, along with outreach, education and screening for local communities at risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
