The annual Halloween festivities drew about 20,000 people to Lahaina throughout Wednesday night, according to Maui Police Department spokesman Lt. Gregg Okamoto.

There were no arrests related to Front Street activities, he said.

This year’s Halloween turnout was around the same as last year. Also last year, there were no arrests or significant incidents, police reported.

This year, the Police Department’s goal was “voluntary compliance and to create a family friendly atmosphere,” Okamoto said in an email.

Eric and Jill Mitchell of Makawao walk their Great Dane turned Holstein, Omerta, in Wednesday’s Keiki Parade. They said the 18-month-old dog weighs 180 pounds and though his name means “code of silence,” he isn’t always that quiet.

Meanwhile, the LahainaTown Action Committee announced the costume contest winners.

First place went to “Dia De Los Muertos Wedding Party,” with Kristen and Andy Spees getting married on Wednesday in a scuba wedding in Lahaina before coming to Lahaina for the costume contest. They won a $1,000 prize.

Second place was awarded to Denise Green for her costume “Orchid,” and third place went to Julie Mitchell’s “Marie Antoinette.”
