Poinsettia plant sale as popular as ever

University of Hawaii Maui College agriculture student Eddie Amboya rearranges poinsettia plants during Saturday’s annual Christmas Plant and Pottery Sale on the Kahului campus. Students and staff said there was the usual long line out the door of customers waiting to buy plants at the popular annual event. This year’s sale featured 1,000 poinsettia plants that faced several big challenges. The day the starts arrived on Maui, classes were canceled for Hurricane Lane. Instead of being planted right away, they had to wait a week jammed together in a box. Last month, a water main break meant the plants did not get watered automatically. Student John Moen arrived and saved the plants by watering them all by hand with a bucket.
