Progressive PAC endorses Kaniela Ing’s bid for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional seat

The progressive political action committee Democracy for America has endorsed Democratic South Maui Rep. Kaniela Ing in his bid for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional seat, which serves urban Oahu.

Committee Chairman Jim Dean said the group endorsed Ing, a state House member since 2012, not only because he’s “as an unapologetic progressive on an inclusive populist agenda, but because he knows how to build the kind of grass-roots campaign progressives need to win a tough primary election and deliver on the bold reforms our country needs once he’s in office.”

Dean praised Ing’s support for Medicare for all, a federal job guarantee and tuition-free college.

Ing said that as a young father with a 2-year-old son, he understands the struggles of working people and works so his child will “have a shot to make it in Hawaii,” which has the highest cost of living and lowest wages in America.”

“Fighting Trump is important, but it’s not enough,” he said.
