UPW endorses Victorino for mayor
The United Public Workers Union has endorsed Mike Victorino for Maui County mayor, according to a union announcement.
“Mike Victorino is familiar with the issues facing Maui County and has the experience necessary to lead the county forward in addressing the tough issues,” said UPW State Director Dayton Nakanelua.
The endorsement announcement notes Victorino’s experience as a Maui County Council member and with service in community organizations, including the County School Advisory Council, the Board of Water Supply and the Rural Action Committee.
As the Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu council member from 2007 to 2016, he served on the Public Works, Parks and Recreation and Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs committees.
The union also gave its nod to several County Council candidates, including Alan Arakawa to the Kahului residency seat, Stacy Crivello to the Molokai seat, Yuki Lei Sugimura to the Upcountry seat and Claire Carroll to the East Maui seat.
