Couch sets social, fundraiser Saturday

Don Couch, who is running for the South Maui state House seat, will be holding an afternoon social and fundraiser at 5 Palms Restaurant in Kihei from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

There will be music, heavy pupu, a cash bar and complimentary soft drinks. Tickets are $100 and may be purchased at the door or online at www.doncouch.com.

Couch, a former Maui County Council member, is running as a Democrat and seeking the District 11 seat being vacated by Rep. Kaniela Ing.

“I’m looking forward to talking with Maui voters about their views of the challenges facing our community and about how by working together we can meet those challenges to ensure a safe and prosperous future for our working families, our youth and our kupuna,” Couch said.

Sierra Club, union back Lawrence

Tiare Lawrence, who is seeking the Upcountry state House seat, has received endorsements from the Sierra Club and Unite Here! Local 5 union.

She is running as a Democrat against incumbent Kyle Yamashita for the District 12 seat, which includes Upcountry, Spreckelsville and parts of Kahului.
