Baker receives Mink PAC support

State Sen. Roz Baker, who is running for re-election, recently received the endorsement of the Patsy T. Mink Political Action Committee.

Baker is seeking re-election to the 6th Senate District, which includes South and West Maui.

“Sen. Baker has been an indefatigable champion for women’s health and women’s rights,” a news release said. “The Patsy T. Mink PAC is proud to stand for Sen. Baker just as she has stood for women in Hawaii for more than two decades.”

The Patsy T. Mink Political Action Committee seeks to honor the legacy of Patsy T. Mink by assisting pro-choice Democratic women attain and retain elective office. Its mission is to improve the lives of Hawaii’s women and families.

Kapu running for Maui OHA seat

Ke’eaumoku Kapu has announced his candidacy for the Maui trustee seat on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

For the past 18 years, Kapu has served as adviser and counsel to Na Papa Kanaka O Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site on Hawaii island.

His other community work includes serving on the National Association for Interpretations; Pohai O Kamehameha, In Celebration of Canoes; cultural consultant for Friends of Moku’ula; former president, vice chairman and director of Hui O Wa’a Kaulua; state Burial Council; Maui Lana’i Island Burial Council; Maui County Cultural Resources Commission; director and founder of Kuleana Ku’ikahi LLC; Western Pacific Fisheries Management Council; chairman of the Native Hawaiian Historic Preservation Council for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; founder and cultural consultant to Hawaiian Outreach Economic Association; Na Aikane o Maui Cultural Center; and Aha Moku o Maui.

“We need to empower our communities to become the rightful decision makers in Hawaii also through the legislative body of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs,” Kapu said.
