Hotel association endorses candidates in general election
The Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association has issued its endorsements for Maui County candidates in the Nov. 6 general election.
Those include former Maui County Council Member Mike Victorino for mayor and former Council Member Alice Lee for the council’s Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu residency seat, which is now held by Council Member Alika Atay.
Atay was the only council incumbent not to get a nod from the association with 700 members and nearly 40,000 employees.
Incumbent council members to receive endorsements from the group were: Kelly King to the South Maui residency seat, Yuki Lei Sugimura to the Upcountry seat, Riki Hokama to the Lanai seat and Stacy Crivello to the Molokai seat.
Candidates seeking open council seats who received association endorsements were: Rick Nava to the West Maui seat, Alan Arakawa to the Kahului seat and Mike Molina to the Makawao-Haiku-Paia seat. The association did not make any endorsement for the East Maui seat being vacated by Council Member Bob Carroll.
In statewide races, the association is backing Democratic Gov. David Ige for re-election and Democratic Sen. Josh Green for lieutenant governor.
