On The Campaign Trail
Keiki to the Polls event is Saturday
A Keiki to the Polls event, where voters bring their children with them to cast their ballot, is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku to coincide with absentee walk-in voting.
The event is hosted by the Maui Women’s March and The Mauimama, whose goals are to empower women to vote and to educate the next generation on the importance of voting. The Mauimama advocates for the Maui women and children and the Women’s March seeks to give voice to marginalized communities, the event news release said.
Residents also may register to vote at the absentee walk-in voting day and on Election Day, Nov. 6. To register and vote, an individual must be a U.S. citizen, a Hawaii resident, and at least 18 years of age. Those registering for the first time will need to bring proof of identification, which can be a current Hawaii driver’s license; Hawaii or military ID; passport; or current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government issued document showing name and address.
