Other services include:

* 6 p.m. Wednesday, Erev of Rosh Hashana.

* 8:30 a.m. Thursday, first day of Rosh Hashana, with the traditional blowing of the shofar. The Tashlich ceremony will follow at the beach, with a 6:30 p.m. service for the eve of the second day of Rosh Hashana.

* 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6, second day of Rosh Hashanah, with a 6:30 p.m. service for Shabbat Shuva.

The congregation is ushering in the month of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, marking the anniversary of the creation of Adam and the completion of the world. The first of Tishrei is Rosh Hashana, or the first day of the Jewish new year.

Rosh Hashana is more widely known as the Day of Judgment because God conceals his people’s sins and accords them forgiveness. Each person is judged according to the events of his life during the forthcoming year.
