Leadership administration class to begin

Transformation School of Ministries’ next class will be on leadership administration.

Led by the Rev. Norman Wilkie, the classes will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 6.

Wilkie will discuss practical leadership principles for sound administration and organization and for an effective life-giving, healthy church.

Tuition for an associate’s degree is $150 per quarter and $50 per quarter for students auditing the course. The cost for graduate students is $30 per quarter.

The classes will be held at 432 Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku.

Group granted nonprofit status by IRS

A Cup of Cold Water has been granted nonprofit status by the Internal Revenue Service, according to an announcement from the all-volunteer outreach ministry of the Episcopal Churches of Maui and Friends.

The group’s community care van delivers basic needs, including water, nutrition, clothing and comfort, to Maui’s most needy people, the group said.

Volunteers come from all four Maui Episcopal churches as well as Catholic, Nazarene, Congregational, New Hope Chapel, Grace Bible and other communities of faith, the announcement said.

In the first seven months of this year, the group served 4,389 people and distributed 33,693 basic necessities.

Kahului bon dance set for Aug. 9

Kahului Jodo Mission will hold a service to honor ancestors at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9, followed by a bon dance, according to an announcement.

Pre-sale tickets are available for hot or cold laulau. Pickup will be from 4 to 9 p.m. during the bon dance festivities. Other food booths will offer plate lunches, nishime, sushi and chow fun. There will be a Maui Bonsai Club display and games for keiki.
