Priest from Nepal to speak Monday
The Rev. Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, head priest of the Kathmandu Hongwanji in Nepal, will speak from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Kahului Hongwanji Mission as part of the Buddhist Study Center’s 2017 Summer Session titled “Jodo Shinshu in the Land of Shakyamuni.”
Bhutia will share his journey of being raised as a monk at 3 years old to the highest ranks in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He later founded Nepal’s first Hongwanji temple and started a thriving Buddhist community in Kathmandu.
Bhutia also will share how the story of the Buddha is resonating with young adults today.

Free Bible school offered in Lahaina
Grace Baptist Church in Lahaina will have Vacation Bible School from July 24 to 28. The theme is “Over the Moat A Drawbridge to the King!”
The school is free and will take place at the church at 164 Fleming Road from 9 a.m. to noon.
Youths ages 4 through high school are invited to participate. There will be Bible stories, songs, puppets, snacks, crafts and a missionary story. The closing program is at 7 p.m. July 28.
