Buddhists plan joint service
Members and friends of Kahului, Wailuku and Lahaina Jodo missions will gather at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Lahaina Jodo Mission, 12 Ala Moana St., for the annual Jodo Buddhist joint service and fellowship gathering.
Jodo Buddhist practice Nenbutsu meditation, or reciting the mantra “Namu Amida Butsu,” expressing gratitude to the Buddha and to their ancestors. At this service, a special prayer will be offered for the Gannenmono, or first group of Japanese immigrants to come to Hawaii 150 years ago.
Resident minister of Lahaina Jodo Mission, the Rev. Gensho Hara, will deliver the dharma message.

Bahai’i faith subject of film
There will be a free screening of “The Gate: Dawn of the Bahai’i Faith” from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Iao Theater in Wailuku.
The event will include a question-and-answer session with Steve Sarowitz, executive producer of the film. Doors open at 6.
The documentary tells the story of the Prophet Herald, known as “The Bab,” his message and the origins of a new era in world religion.

Pet blessing at Kihei church
Trinity-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, located at 100 Kulanihakoi St. in Kihei, will have a pet blessing at the 9 a.m. service on Sunday.
People are invited to bring their pet on a leash or caged, or to bring a picture of their pet, to join this special service. Water and treats will be available for pets and owners.
