Michael George Welch, 52

Michael George Welch, 52, of Kula, Maui died on September 21, 2014 at his home.

Michael George was born in Munich, Germany on May 19, 1962 to James Earl Welch and Nancy Louise Rabdau Welch. He is survived by wife Linda Cochran Welch, son Noah Aukai Welch, and daughters Madeleine Kalawai Welch and Maya Ke’ale Welch, as well as siblings Marina Diamond-Heart of Arizona, Chris Welch of Oahu, John Welch of California, Kat Fitzpatrick of New York, James Welch of Thailand; and Kim Welch of Arizona.

He attended St. Anthony Jr.-Sr. High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Michael was a media arts specialist and held jobs at Maui Arts and Cultural Center and Kamehameha School.

His great loves were spending time with his kids, surfing, diving and fishing. Despite many troubled times in his life he was known for his ability to greet everyone with a smile, make them laugh and make them feel loved.

A public viewing will be held Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Ballard Funeral Home in Kahului, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A celebration of life and scattering of his ashes will be held at the south end of Keawakapu Beach in Wailea at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
