Yoshimi George Hata, 94

Yoshimi George Hata, 94, of Haiku, passed away on December 28, 2016 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Services honoring Mr. Hata were held privately at his request.

Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

Yoshimi was born on January 12, 1922 in Hilo, Hawaii to Yoichi & Naeko Hirata.  He was the 9th of 10 children born to the young couple.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army, graduated from Wooster College in Ohio and went on to earn his Master’s degree in Education from New York University.  In 1960, Yoshimi married his love, Sanae Minowa and together they raised three daughters.  Mr. Hata was a beloved teacher at Makawao School until his retirement in 1977.  After retiring, he could be found at Waiehu golf course several times a week catching up with friends and working on his game.

Mr. Hata was predeceased by his parents, Yoichi & Naeko Hata; and siblings, Katsumi Hata, Sumiko Suzuki, Dr. Toshio (Jane) Hata, Minoru (Shigeko) Hata, Hiromu (Ada) Hata, Susumu (Dorothy) Hata, Akira (Fumiko) Hata, Yuki Hata & Frank Jitsuo (Emi) Hata.

Yoshimi is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sanae Hata, daughters, June (Paul) Thomas, Joyce Hata & Janet (Dean) Hata-Yonezawa; granddaughter, Katrina Thomas; and grandson, Jake Thomas.
