Mary Ellen Leilani Kekiwi, 79
Mary Ellen Leilani Kekiwi, 79, of Wailuku, Maui passed away on August 29th at Maui Memorial Hospital with the beautiful voices of her family singing at her bedside.
Visitation and Mass services will be held at Saint Anthony Church on Saturday, September 23, 2017, with family viewing from 8:00-9:00am and public from 9:00-11:00am. Mass to follow from 11:00-12:00 noon. Family requests green attire.
Mary Ellen was born on October 27, 1938 in Wailuku. She graduated at Saint Anthony at 8th grade and later received a degree in Culinary Arts. She worked as a Matron at the detention home for adolescence and later became a security guard for Freeman Guards as well as a dishwasher at Tasty Crust as a part-time job.
Mary Ellen loved music, especially country music. She also loved playing baseball and paddling canoe in her younger days but had a passion for playing scrabble, playing cards, reading, writing and solving crossword puzzles.
Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Edward Kekiwi Sr.; son, Shamrod Kekiwi; daughters, Dennette & Nadine Kahookele; parents, Francis & Elizabeth Rodrigues; and sister, Winona Mapuana Cabacungan. Mary Ellen leaves behind to cherish her memory, brother, Francis Malulani Rodrigues; sons, William (Elizabeth) Rodrigues, Alfred (Dora) Kahookele, Russell (Louisa) Kahookele & Edward (Gail) Kekiwi; daughters, LeeAnn (Bernard) Paman, Gaylen (Phil) Eleban, Edda (Ray) Kekiwi-Legsay, Mamo (Shane) Kekiwi, Cassie (Jon) Paio & Althea (Boy) Raboy; hanai daughters, Traci Ogata & Deborah Verzosa; daughter-in-law, Harriet Kekahuna; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
