Masaru Nitta, 102, of Hilo, Hawaii and formerly of Kahului, Maui died Oct. 6 at his residence. Born in Paia, Maui, he was a retired machinist for Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Kahului Hongwanji Mission and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Anti-tank Company, 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II.

He is survived by daughters, Gail (Dexter) Shimabukuro of Hilo, Faye (Earl) Maruishi of Honolulu; sisters, Yoshino Okazaki of Honolulu, Mildred Tsukuda of Kauai, Mary Wakamatsu of Maui, Ethel Okabe of Waianae; brother, Ray (Doris) Nitta of Honolulu;sister-in-law, Gertrude Nitta of Honolulu; three grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews.
