Teruo Kakihara, 90
Teruo Kakihara, 90, of Kahului passed away peacefully on October 1, 2017. Born in Haiku, he was pre-deceased by parents Keizo and Tsuruyo Kakihara, brothers Satoru and Richard and sister Lillian. He is survived and will be missed by his brother Tom (Paddy); sister Patsy (Paul) Hasegawa, and sister-in-law Kiyoko Kakihara, all of California, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews in Hawaii and California.
Teruo was a proud graduate of Maui High School, and his last outing was to the MHS Hall of Honor banquet just five days before his passing. After service in the U.S. Army, he lived and worked in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco, where he worked for Otagiri Merchantile. Except for a few years when he lived in Mesquite, NV, he spent his retirement years on Maui, which he called “Paradise.”
Private services have been held with inurnment at Maui Veterans Cemetery. Family requests no koden, but gifts may be sent to Hospice Maui in Teruo’s memory.
