Tsugio “Tsugi” Sakurada, 92

Tsugio “Tsugi” Sakurada, 92, of Wailuku, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2017, under the compassionate care of Islands Hospice and Luzy Alonzo.

Services honoring Mr. Sakurada will be held privately at his request.

Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

Tsugio was born in Honolulu, on January 17, 1925 to Kakushi & Yoshika Sakurada. He was the 3rd of 5 children. After graduating from Molokai High School in 1943, Tsugi proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Upon his return, he met and married his love, Ruby Kawahara. After the young couple moved to Molokai, they raised three children while Mr. Sakurada worked as a field supervisor for Del Monte Foods. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed ballroom dancing with his lovely wife, hunting, fishing, and working in his yard. Tsugi excelled in tennis, playing well into his 80’s and is fondly remembered at Wells Park as “Coach Tsugi”. He will be remembered by friends and family as a hardworking, quiet and humble man, who valued his family above all else.

Mr. Sakurada leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruby T. Sakurada; daughters, Laurie (James) Roman & Kelly (Jon) Mitsuyasu; son, Scott (Traci) Sakurada; and grandsons, Sajid C. & Kanoa M. Roman of CA. He is also survived by his brother, Eugene Sakurada; sister, Rosie Arinoki; and numerous nieces and nephews.
