Yaeko Matsuda, 85
Yaeko Matsuda, daughter of Rikiichi & Shizuko Kawaguchi, was born in Makawao, Maui on October 12, 1932 and passed away on December 17, 2017 at Hale Makua.
Services honoring Mrs. Matsuda will be held at Kahului Hongwanji Mission on Friday, January 5, 2018. Visitation will begin at 9:30am with services beginning at 10:30am. Interment services will be held privately. The family requests casual attire. In lieu of flowers and koden, the family asks donations be made in Aunty Yaechan’s name to Hale Makua and Kahului Hongwanji Mission.
Yaeko attended Kamehameha III School in Lahaina and started her teaching career at the school in 1956. She graduated from Lahainaluna High School in 1950. She continued her education by attending Western State College in Colorado and at Colorado A.M. (Colorado State University), where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree. She began teaching in 1956 and ended her career at Kahului School in 1988. However, she spent another 10 years volunteering and helping Kahului School.
Her passion was to help others, so she helped numerous organizations. Beside these endeavors, she found time to bowl, fish, camp, cook, bake, garden and most of all, to care for her family and friends.
Although she did not have any children, she treated her 29 nieces and nephews, as well as the other 3 generations of nieces and nephews as her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Noboru Matsuda; eldest brother, Masaichi Kawaguchi and eldest sister, Miyoko Kubo.
She is survived by brothers, Kenji (Mildred) Kawaguchi, Robert (Sakae) Kawaguchi, Kenneth (Frances) Kawaguchi and Alan (Geraldine) Kawa-guchi; sisters, Shizue Suzuki, Mildred (Paul) Yasuhara, and Geraldine Matsui.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Hale Makua and Maui Adult Care Center and Dr. M. Dang.
