John Kaluna Kaauwai, 66

John “Big John” Kaluna Kaauwai, passed peacefully in his Wailuku home surrounded by his loved ones on January 31, 2018 at the age of 66. He was born in Lihue, Kauai on December 25, 1951 and retired as a Heavy Equipment operator for HC&S after his time as a Fisherman on the Orion, and former Waimea River Boat Captain.

He was preceded in death by Mother, Carmen, Daligdig, Father, Isaiah Kaauwai, Son, Keo Kalaniopuu Kaauwai.

He is survived by brothers, Billy Lopes, Dorin Kaauwai, sisters Brenda Viado, Betty-Jean Contrades, sons Kaluna and Keoni Kaauwai, daughter and son-in law Kuuipo & Cory Muscutt, grandchildren, Keo -Kaauwai-Maddela, Pueolani Rabanes, Rhian Mendes-Muscutt, Kaiena’ena Kaauwai, Kasen, Aria and Kira Muscutt.

Friends may visit and share memories with the family on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at The Nakamura Mortuary in Wailuku. A casual service will begin at 12pm. Flowers are omitted but leis are welcome.
