Shoye Katena, 90
Mr. Shoye Katena, 90, of Kahului, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018 under the compassionate care of Hospice Maui and his loving family.
Services honoring Mr. Katena will be held at Paia Rinzai Zen on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Visitation will begin at 9:00am, with services beginning at 10:00am. The family also requests no flowers.
Shoye was born in Peahi on August 25, 1927 to Ryosuke & Kamado Katena. He was the second of eleven children. After graduating Maui High School with the class of 1944, Shoye proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, a career that spanned over 20 years. After retiring from his military service, Mr. Katena was an electrical mechanic for Kahului Trucking Company.
Mr. Katena was predeceased by his brothers, Akira & James Katena; and sisters, Doris Urasaki & Akiko Matsuda. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Lucille Katena; daughters, Julie Akemi Katena & Jennie (Daryn) Lau; step-children, Russell Nakama, Jeffrey (Keiko) Nakama, Doreen (Isaac) White & Lee Nakama; siblings; Yoshinori Katena, Elaine F. Rodrigues, and Aileen Nagamine; 11 grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
