Daniel H. Watanabe, 94

Daniel Hisao Watanabe, 94, of Makawao, passed away peacefully at Hale Makua Kahului on April 2, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Services honoring Mr. Watanabe will be held privately. Please, no monetary donations.

Daniel was born on July 7, 1923 in Kula to Hitomi & Yoshio Watanabe. He was the younger of two boys. Daniel proudly served in the U.S. Army and upon his return; he married his love, Hisae “Edith” Masusako on June 4, 1954. Daniel was a hard worker and took pride in providing for his family. He retired from the UH Extension Service as an Agriculture Research Technician. Daniel was great with his hands and always had an ongoing project at home, he enjoyed carpentry projects, woodworking, and was incredibly artistic. He loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas and San Francisco, camp and fish.

He will be remembered for his good sense of humor, his outgoing nature and his appreciation for food, family, and friends.

Daniel was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Mrs. Hisae “Edith” Watanabe. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Cathlyn Watanabe and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special Mahalo to the staff of Hale Makua Kahului, Hale Makua Kahului Ilima, Island Hospice and Dr. Neil Nunokawa for the outstanding care they provided Mr. Watanabe.
