Spooky times in Maui County
Halloween is one of our favorite holidays.
When the children were little, we could reduce them to tears of embarrassment by greeting their trick or treating friends wearing a mask created by simply cutting two eyeholes in a sock.
“The Lone Stranger” made the children cringe. Made the wife shudder, too.
Ah, but those days are behind us now. Such antics are hardly worth it if it doesn’t make someone ashamed to be related to you.
So we look with envy at those parents who will see their children marching in the Keiki Costume Parade today in Lahaina at 4:30 p.m.
The parade is, of course, just the first part of LahainaTown Action Committee and the Maui County Office of Economic Development’s plans for 2017 Halloween in Lahaina. Food can be purchased starting at 4 p.m. on at Campbell Park and live entertainment will begin there at 6 p.m.
The adult costume contest starts just after dark and sponsors promise thousands of dollars worth of prizes.
If you go to the festivities in Lahaina, remember that sales of the official Halloween T-shirt support the events. You can purchase one in Campbell Park this evening.
Elsewhere in Maui County, have a good, safe time helping your kids trick or treat. Young ghosts and goblins need adult supervision on this spooky night. Probably need a little assist eating all that candy when they get home, too.
Hey, it’s a win-win proposition.
