Maui’s counter clerks deserving of appreciation

Now that holiday season 2012 is behind us, I want to recognize our unsung, entrepreneurial veterans: Maui’s counter clerks.

For weeks they endured the wide-ranging vicissitudes of customer behavior – the bored husband, weary of aisle-travel; the anxious wife, eager to get to the next mall; the young adult with the maxed-out credit card; the whining toddler who dropped his toy Bushmaster; the elderly lady, searching fruitlessly for just the right change.

Yet, these and others who would frustrate even the most reasonable among us leave little negative impact on the resilient clerks who weather long hours (often for minimum wage) in our service. Would that we all had the good quality of character to leave their counter with a very sincere mahalo.
