Newspaper should give president credit he’s due

The Maui News is anything but fair and balanced when it comes to our president, and is acting like the Hawaii arm of Fox News.

The editorials seem to be anti-Obama. The Feb 5 editorial spoke of economic choices of food stamps and unemployment that seem to say are holding the economy back.

Remember the position that the Republicans and President George W. Bush left us, near depression and economy in the ditch?

Unemployment and food stamps have been necessary due to the fact that many unemployed needed help. That money is spent on survival rather than the tax breaks for those making more than $200,000.

The do-nothing Congress passed not one jobs bill since the House was taken over by the Republicans in 2010. Even transportation bills that would have created jobs were not passed. Obama is the first president since Dwight Eisenhower to get 51 percent of the vote two times. It’s time to realize we must all do what is good for the country.

Jobs would eliminate the deficits as was proved under President Bill Clinton.

Where are Republican proposals for jobs they promised prior to 2010? Stopping wars, going after terrorists and starting our economy in a recovery process are all great accomplishments. It took more than 30 years to recover from the Great Depression, which we were on the brink of doing when Obama took over.

It’s time our paper gives credit to the president.
