Pre-emptive planning required for climate change
Whether we agree or not on human influence regarding climate change, we know that we are likely to have more severe weather and more often.
Governments around the world have been investing in plans to protect people, businesses and infrastructure against weather-related calamities, according to an article in The New Yorker (“Adaptation: How can cities be ‘climate-proofed’?” by Eric Klinenberg, Jan. 7). The article describes efforts of Rotterdam, Singapore and studies of high-tech as well as no-tech approaches.
I can’t help but think of our island and its future and how ready we will be, and of course, I urge pre-emptive planning.
