Recent efforts to curb the paparazzi could go too far
Regarding the “Steven Tyler Act” introduced by Sen. J. Kalani English, it seems to me that the laudable wish to protect celebrities might well have unintended consequences.
The law might have a very chilling effect on free journalism, not just the paparazzi. Even worse is the effect on ordinary citizens. It’s an ongoing struggle to allow citizens to photograph police officers in public places, and I would not want a law to interfere with my right to do that.
Has the senator checked this out with the responsible journalists he knows?
