Mayor’s absence at GOP’s convention disappointing

On March 2, the Maui County Republican Party had its annual convention. It was a great day as George Fontaine took over as the new chairperson. I am excited about the new direction of the party and am confident that the GOP is on the way up in Hawaii.

The only thing that I was a little disappointed in was the fact that Mayor Alan Arakawa was not at the event. I would think that the highest elected official on the island would be at his party’s events unless he had a good reason for not being there.

I have called his office and messaged him on Facebook, and have gotten no response. All I am asking for is an explanation as to why he was not at the meeting. I think that is reasonable since he is registered as a Republican.
