Veteran deserved military honors at his funeral

As a friend of and fellow combat veteran of Orley Anderson, I was very disappointed that the military did not show for his memorial service at Makawao Veterans Cemetery. Orley deserved a 21-gun salute and taps.

Just surviving the campaigns he was in was heroic, though he was very humble about it. As most of you know, he was an infantryman in the Battle of the Bulge and Remagan (The Bridge Too Far).

Taps means a lot to real veterans. Especially one who was born on the Fourth of July, as Orley was.
