Better words were needed to describe hula results
Recent front page headline stated: “Maui dancers seize top spots at Merrie Monarch” (The Maui News, April 6).
An accompanying photo’s caption stated that halau members celebrated with the winner “after their dancer captured the Miss Aloha Hula title.”
Do I assume that recent military changes allowing women to participate in armed combat has already had an influence on hula?
Certainly better and more accurate words than “seize” and “captured” should have been used with regard to winning a hula competition.
