Employees performing their jobs with aloha
My husband and I have been applying for permits for an ohana and to have a bed-and-breakfast, so we have had many opportunities to call and come into the county planning departments and interact with building inspectors.
I have been very pleasantly surprised by the level of competence, the willingness to help and the aloha shown in every encounter.
When I thanked one of them, she modestly replied, “We really are doing our job and that is to serve the public as best as we can.”
It may be their job but they are doing it in a way that makes one proud to be a Maui taxpayer.
Thanks to Mayor Alan Arakawa for the part he played in this, and to all the other county employees I have yet to interact with. My guess is they will be equally helpful and friendly.
