Greedy corporations should give back to community

Our electric rates in Hawaii are among the highest in the nation. With seniors and others living on fixed incomes, why is there not some kind of discounted rate for these people?

The “Big Five,” and others who have monopolized our Hawaiian lands, should give something back to the people, don’t you think? This is just one small way. Another is helping the homeless and displaced people of Hawaii. The only thing I keep seeing is more industrial centers, rental properties, hotels and the like that generate more income for them.

Greed is indeed a terrible thing. One small consolation is in the Bible, though, when it says: “It is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”

I wish that this verse would give some of these huge greedy corporations a conscience. However, it seems doubtful that the majority of them even believe that they will face God one day. Sadly, money has become their God.
