Sentencings show a moral compass is badly needed
“Man gets 5 years for car break-in, theft” (The Maui News, April 20); “Eighteen months, probation for man in sexual assault of girl over 5 years” (The Maui News, April 17).
The first crime involved people’s stuff, the second a 4-year-old baby girl.
What is wrong with us? How could stuff be more important to a society than a precious child. Ua mau ke ea o ka aina i na opio goes the song.
We are a people badly in need of a moral compass.
