State keeps playing politics at nurses’ expense

What has happened to Hawaii state registered nurses’ arbitration?

The nurses’ attorney has proved that Hawaii state nurses are paid 32 to 36 percent less than private facility nurses in the state of Hawaii and also that the state has the money to pay these same nurses a raise.

The state’s attorney says, “Let them eat cake,” offering an inconceivable pay cut of 24 percent.

As of today (two years later), we do not have a decision. Arbitration appears to have favored the state by prolonging the process as long as possible. Try to prolong paying your electric, water and sanitation bill increases for two years.

While the state plays politics, the brain drain continues. Experienced nurses leave because they can’t pay their bills. I guess the state believes giving itself raises – 35 percent in 2011 and 25 percent in 2014 – improves health care in Hawaii for everyone.
