Help needed to care for dogs with special needs

Maui PAWS is a no-kill dog sanctuary located on 2 1/2 acres in Haiku.

For the last 16 years, we have operated a special-needs, no-kill dog sanctuary. Dogs with physical and medial problems are surrendered to us as a last hope. Dogs with terminal illness can receive hospice care until their last day.

Today, there are 23 dogs left. We had to stop accepting dogs several months ago.

We have a 40-year lease with 20 years remaining, but the bank sold the property and would not recognize our lease. The property owners caused the property to go into foreclosure. A judge has signed an emergency order to stop the sheriff from evicting us until May 30. There is a court hearing in Judge Burt Ayabe’s chambers on Oahu. We have to put up a bond to stay on the property or leave.

We at Maui PAWS are asking all the animal lovers on Maui for help. We need help to secure a bond or we need a new location, foster homes, fencing materials, dog kennels, dog food and donations.
