Judge should do jail time for her illegal actions

It is appalling to see attorneys and retired judges defending and excusing the illegal actions of a Maui judge.

Mimi DesJardins, by not reprimanding the police and immediately releasing the prisoners, was complicit in their failure to uphold the prisoners’ constitutional rights. And then she attempted to cover up the illegalities by falsifying the documents.

If any other person had done this, they would have been jailed.

In my opinion, at the very least, DesJardins should be disbarred, have the misdemeanor on her permanent record and have to serve a day in jail for every hour that she deprived those people of due process.

Judges should be held to the highest standards. For a judge to violate the public trust is despicable.
