Let the professionals decide what is an emergency

In regard to a May 21 letter on The Maui News’ May 9 editorial on texting: How dare the letter writer make the assumption that he knows what an emergency is better than the police, fire and ambulance crews.

To state that more accidents occur from trying to get out of the way of emergency vehicles using sirens than there are from texting is ludicrous.

Citations should be given for texting while driving. If you can’t see why, trying to convince you is a waste of time.

While the Maui Police Department is out giving citations for no seat belts and texting, maybe they can start giving them for being ignorant as well.
