Shorter, better route for roadway is possible

Don’t you just love how government works? We have needed a connector road from South Maui to Upcountry for 30 years (The Maui News, May 19), perhaps four or five miles long from Kihei/Wailea to Kula. But the wise engineers decide to go diagonally all the way from central Kihei to Haliimaile – 9.6 miles, which requires purchasing property from three different landowners.

Did anyone try to negotiate with Oprah Winfrey for use of her private road? Bet you’d save some big bucks.

While we wait for this long, long, long-term project to be completed, how about some help for Hansen Road, our only alternative to the gridlock of Dairy Road when traveling from Upcountry to South Maui?

Simply a little widening and repaving – but don’t take out the jump.
