Visiting kiteboarder made wary by controversy

I am a kiteboarder who comes to Maui to kite regularly. I am baffled by the current controversy surrounding the family that wants to ban kiting from the park so swimmers can have better, safer access (The Maui News, May 19).

Myself, along with many of my friends, come to Maui to enjoy the great wind and culture, but I must say that if this controversy escalates to further sanctions against kiteboarding I will most likely spend my travel funds elsewhere.

I am writing this in hopes of shedding some light onto how this problem is being viewed from a tourist’s point of view. The last thing I want is to go on a kitesurfing vacation in a stressful situation.
