Roadside trees are old, rotten and neglected

The trees planted along Maui Lani Parkway between Waiale Drive and Kamehameha Avenue were planted and tethered at least three years ago.

The tethering was to assist an upright growth. However, like nearly all other subdivisions before, once the trees were tethered they were ignored and remain with their original tethers, which are now strangling the trees.

Hard to believe that there is no Maui arborist society which could use volunteers to monitor the status of our island’s trees and have a voice regarding what trees should be planted. It appears that Maui has no plan for replanting our old and rotten roadside trees.

Does anyone care?
