Council investigation should focus on its own
Council Members Mike White and Riki Hokama, are absolutely correct in demanding an in-depth investigation into the misuse of the Old Wailuku Post Office rehabilitation funds. Clearly, a change to the county budget was necessary. Everybody knew the old post office was going to be demolished well in advance of the actual event.
Undeniably, the people most responsible for that bookkeeping error are those who are responsible for the creation and oversight of the budget. It is very obvious that both the chairman and vice chairman of the Maui County Council Budget and Finance Committee dropped the ball big time. They are the watchdogs and should be held accountable for their extreme negligence and irresponsibility. If the chairman and vice chairman of the council’s Budget and Finance Committee do not issue a very humble and contrite apology to the public and other council members, as the mayor has done, they should be asked to resign because it is blatantly obvious they are not capable of carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
And who are the chairman and vice chairman of the council’s Budget and Finance Committee? That would be White and Hokama.
