Cut down on holidays that keep kids from school

Halloween is now a national costume party. It is huge and a lot of fun. It needs to be set for the last Saturday in October so as not to disrupt school and the workplace. Let’s be the first state to start the trend. We will all benefit.

I am tired of seeing too many holidays that take kids out of school.

How long do we celebrate statehood? Fifty years should have ensured overkill. This is a holiday that takes kids out of school, where they could celebrate, and closes government offices and costs tax dollars. Not many states celebrate this.

It is a liability for the state and a lame law at this stage, but it might take a lame-duck lawmaker to propose elimination as it would be political suicide.
