Makawao town makeover needed to ensure safety

Historic Makawao town is badly in need of a makeover to ensure safety.

I have seen drawings that describe excellent plans for renovating Baldwin Avenue. It appears that a lot of thinking and financing have been put into this project. But, yet, nothing seems to be happening. Those responsible seem to have disappeared after the elections.

The main concern is the unruly parking on Baldwin Avenue in front of the many stores. Parking should only be permitted on one side of the already-narrow street.

More crosswalks should be painted on both Baldwin and Makawao avenues. Makawao town is not pedestrian friendly, and it doesn’t allow vehicle traffic to flow easily.

Our town is a jam and no longer a gem.
