Build cultural museum on Maui, not more malls

I was reading about Bishop Museum – the upgrades and the great shows they have there, the life-size local bug display great for families, Hawaiian culture also a part of that.

I wish we had something like that here, but talk is of outlet malls, condos and access roads. It would be nice one day to read that a major landowner company plans a new interactive Hawaiian cultural museum. Wow, outside stuff for kids. Tourists might like it, too.

You can go to a mall on the Mainland – every 10 miles.

The Kihei planners’ ideas are 1980s, have been done, condos, malls. Make something you don’t drive by. Build something that locals, tourists, schools can take part of.

We have something here on Maui, unlike anywhere. Let’s show it, and learn too.
