Smaller plan would be beautiful and wise

The Maui News missed the recent event sponsored by Maui County and Maui Tomorrow but did manage to talk to the NextEra executives regarding the proposed billion-dollar cable project that would send Maui wind power to Oahu (Sept. 23).

There were many serious questions posed to the team of experts who presented on behalf of the developer.

Seems like a big vision with big issues, big risks and only a small benefit to Maui taxpayers. It was suggested that the project could reduce our monthly utility bill by $15. Spending a mere fraction of those funds on solar water, photovoltaic and wind systems for Maui homes would save much more while distributing the power and reducing the risk of a big failure.

Small is not only beautiful but wise. No more mega projects please.
