Government should stay out of marriage debate

I really admire how many of the churches have come together to ask the governor to allow the people to vote on the issue of marriage.

While I think their heart is in the right place, I think it is a huge mistake. By asking for a vote, they are allowing the government to have a say in a matter that they should stay completely out of to begin with.

Separation of church and state has always been a part of this country, and marriage was made by the church. Therefore, the government should be left out of it and the churches should decide. Not all the churches will agree, but that is the whole point of the First Amendment.
