Help new islanders obtain their driver’s license
I read with interest the Oct. 22 article “Maui offers a perfect match for its visitors from S. Korea.” The point is well taken. Overcoming language barriers would improve access to tourism opportunity.
When discussing this with my favorite sushi chef, he pointed out that there is another durable opportunity for Maui. More South Koreans are buying property for vacation homes as well as full-time residences. He claims that there is a great deal of frustration due to the inability to obtain a driver’s license. These new residents, especially the wives, feel trapped in their homes, unable to even grocery shop.
If the Maui Motor Vehicle and Licensing Division does not have a program to help our new islanders, it should consider developing one.
