Irony seen in marriage ad sponsored by churches

The initial half-page appeal of some churches not to allow same-sex marriages was both ironic and hypocritical. It pictured a presumably married couple of different races. In many U.S. states, prior to 1967, this couple could not have legally married. It took a 1967 Supreme Court decision which deemed anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional to enable interracial marriage throughout all of the United States.

In 1970, 12 states, mostly Bible Belt states, still kept these unenforceable miscegenation laws on their books. It took Alabama until November 2000 to repeal its law.

Times change, people change. Get with it, and allow those divorce lawyers an additional income stream.
