Lawmakers must speak for those who are silenced

I fervently hope for the passing of the bill allowing marriage equality for all of Hawaii’s families. There are many gay and lesbian individuals who are afraid to publicly show favor for this bill (i.e., via live testimony, sign-waving and writing letters to the editor) because of the stigma attached to coming out as gay.

As well, children of gay couples are too young to have a voice in this fight for their rights and privileges.

Legislators must speak up for those who are silenced. It takes courage and compassion for heterosexual adults to declare their support for marriage equality.
